Buster Scruggs and Other Musings
I recently viewed the film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs by the Coen Brothers which was shown at the SCAD Film Fest. The film chronicles tales from the old west ranging from silly, to viscerally brutal. The compositions were striking and left an imprint on my memory has moved me to start investigating color and mood. Tragedy and unexpected turns are scattered throughout the tales and the narratives, thought only brief snap shots and windows, provide enough information to throw the viewer into thinking about some of life’s most pressing questions. This is what I personally hope to achieve in my own work. Below is a drawing I did of my friend from the west - Guillermo. Does this portrait provide a mood and perhaps a story?
